I was born in Sydney in 1975 and spent most of my childhood in country New South Wales and the Blue Mountains. Mr Squiggle, Monkey and The Magic Roundabout were my favourite shows as a kid, I got absorbed by the work of Maurice Sendak, scary old Arthur Rackham illustrations & picture books such as The Bunyip of Berkeley's Creek and One Dragons Dream. The title of my recent exhibition was 'Wisht List' - wisht is an old word from the South of England meaning uncanny or pixie-led. The works are about ghosts & fairies, haunted countryside, talking beasts, changelings and someone stepping on your grave. 'Hide and Seek' by Irini Savvides, published by Scholastic Press, is a picture book about a child coming to terms with loss. 'Lilli-Pilli the Frog Princess' by Vashti Farrer, also published by Scholastic Press, is a modern fairytale that celebrates being true to yourself.
